It’s been a whirlwind season the past two months since my eldest son Kenny has started playing water polo at Carmel High School.  It has given me the opportunity to photograph well over thirty some water polo games.  Although I don’t normally shoot sports, it has been a nice break from my normal portrait, wedding, and commercial photography work, as well as a chance to help keep spirit up on the team.  The season is winding down with the TCAL league championships this weekend at the beautiful Carmel High School Aquatic Center November 7, 2009.  Look for the eight foot long CHS WaterPolo canvas banner!

  1. Great shots Ken!

  2. Hi, Nice to see a comparison of the S2 with phase one, I have a Leica R9 with the imacon DMR digital back, similar experience with that as to what you reported, stunning images at low iso’s disappointing at Higher iso’s like 800. However cameras are horses for courses, you could have used a tripod with the S2 like in some of the longer exposure shots you used with the phase one, or just use it in an area you know its got top performance and leave low light demanding shots to the canon’s and nikons of the press world. Nice work all the same.

    • Hi Thomas,

Thank you for your comments. You must be referring to the PIAB workshop—or 2d Capture Integration in Carmel where Dave Gallagher brought out the Leica S2 to try out. Our outing was not intended to be a direct comparison of the S2 to the Phase One MFDB offerings, other than musings between medium format choices. My comments on the limitations of the S2 were made in the backdrop of conditions that I could easily have been able to shoot with a Phase One P65+/P40+ MFDB handheld, nothwithstanding the use of Sensor Plus technology. You should be aware that subsequent firmware updates to the Leica S2 have improved higher iso capability and image quality.

  3. No worries Ken, I’m just jealous, starting to think about next camera, maybe going to higher kit for the the bigger jobs until I’m certain.

    • All of the medium format digital options produce incredible image files. If you already enjoy Leica, there just may be both an S2 and M9 in your future! If you’re able, join in the fun at the next Pigs in a Blanket – Capture Integration in ________, location TBD!
